The first part of my morning routine
In my last email, I laid out the headlines for my morning routine. It’s what I credit with the majority of my daily success.

The key to my day is beginning with gratitude. That’s step 1.
As soon as my eyes open, before I even get out of bed, I think of three things I have to be grateful for. Some examples…
A safe, warm home to wake up in.
A thriving business that challenges me both creatively and intellectually.
A loving family that supports me.
Healthy, nutritious food that sustains me.
The ability to help others.
Let your mind run wild. They could be big things or little things. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that they’re uniquely your own.
I find that when I start my day from a place of gratitude, it keys my mind into a space of generosity that helps me see opportunities throughout the day where others may see problems.
One of the keys to this is to stay buttoned up. Think of just three things. You never want this to feel laborious or overly time-consuming.
Sounds silly to think that the practice of thinking happy thoughts could become laborious, but it’s possible. You want this to to feel like a shot of warm energy straight to your soul, not a chore.
Give thanks and then move on. There’s more to be done this morning and you’ll revisit this practice in a slightly different way at the end of the day.
A word of warning here. If you find that you’re falling back to sleep while trying to do this, just get up and do it while you’re brushing your teeth. Easy solution to a pretty common problem.
This all may sound overly simplistic, but that’s part of the beauty. The keys to a strong, healthy life aren’t really complicated. They just need to be dusted off and practiced with consistency. That’s when the magic happens!
